Founding Partners

Vaasa stemmed from the shared passion of two women — Mangala Patil and Varsha Yashvant. Sisters-in-law by relation, and a doctor and a techie respectively by profession, the two joined hands to start their entrepreneurial journey, one collection at a time.

The duo changed their career paths to explore the world of design and furniture, and launched Vaasa in early 2024. “The seed of the idea of doing business together was always there as we both share an amazing rapport with each other. But the process of building our brand began after I moved to Bengaluru from Rajasthan,” reveals Yashvant.

For Patil, her journey from a doctor to a businesswoman has been an insightful learning curve, letting her showcase her creativity whether it is through furniture curation, selecting the right fabric, or inculcating her biophilia in the newly-opened Bengaluru store. “I have an innate love for plants and we decided to bring this out in our store too, where you are likely to spot rare and unusual greens. They subtly enhance the unique furniture collection we offer, whilst giving customers ideas to do up their balconies or gardens,” she adds.

A keen eye for design and the ability to pick and style statement furniture pieces for a room was the starting point of getting into this field. “I’ve always had a knack for decorating spaces, observed how a room is styled in magazines, and developed a unique taste inspired by my myriad travels,” shares Yashvant.

Overseeing the design details, creating one-of-a-kind furniture pieces, setting up a partnership with a manufacturing unit, and finally opening a store in the heart of the garden city of Bengaluru has been an overwhelming yet rewarding experience for the founders. “What began as a dream of working together someday, turned into lengthy discussions, and finally came to fruition with the birth of Vaasa,” says Patil.

Brand Story

There is no formula for home.
No algorithm that creates togetherness.

Some find it on the living room couch
Where you fall asleep, listening to post-rock vinyl.

Yet some will share memories of warmth
Frolicking around the outdoor seats in the backyard.

And these stories are not mass manufactured.
But crafted by living, breathing artisans.

Who blend time-honoured craftsmanship
With modern palettes and minimal aesthetics.

Who have an eye for organic, naturally-sourced materials
And whose hands mould them into statement pieces.

Furniture that grows on you as you grow with them.
Timeless pieces made to order, crafted only for you.

Because there’s no formula for home.
It is a feeling that’s not born in a factory.
